THE JUNIOR SCHOOL
where we all are for now...

Some people have been asking where are all the children now? Well, the new school is built on the site of the old Sharrow Nursery and Infant School which had around a couple of hundred pupils. The Sharrow Junior School was on South View Road and had another couple of hundred. The junior school is where everybody is now, all of us squashed in with some mobile classrooms.

The Infants are in the buildings in the top photograph, the nursery school is in some mobile classrooms in the Infants playground and the juniors have the big buildings near the front door (above and below).

We think folks are looking forward to all the space and light and views that the new school has, as well as the play areas and the equipment! We can't wait to see it.

Reversing Climate Change Begins at School

KIER our contractor (builder) think that our school is so important that there are things everyone else should know about. They have arranged a CPD event, (Continuing Professional Development) that's like school for grown ups to tell lots of people all about our heat from under the park that will keep us all warm and also the planted roof.

The first of many folks who will visit to learn from our new school will be having their lesson at Bramhall Lane football ground and then coming to the site to have a look around.

We're all nearly famous! We hope that we'll get an invitation?

More about Ground Source heating...

Well, we told you before all about how the pipes under the park keep the school warm with underfloor heating...this where all the pipes come together. One big bunch of pipes bring the heat from the park to the school and the others take the cold back to the park to be warmed up again! Now, how cool is that!!! This funny thing is a 'manifold' it is where all the little pipes come together and become one big pipe that then goes on to take the heat into the plant room (there isn't room in there for all the little pipes). It's a very clever thing and there is one for the hot pipes coming in and one for the cold pipes going out to the park. The pipes should all be completed soon so the heating will be turned on to test it out...we're keeping our paws crossed that it works!

WE'RE BACK

THE FIRST THING YOU'LL SEE
The reception desk!
This where Andrew Skelton (our artist) lives, right next door to a barn that is his workshop. No rush hour commuting to the office for Andrew! .

You can see Kath (Architectural Technologist), Andrew and Helen (Landscape Architect) admiring the view.

Here we are inspecting the desk. Did we mention before that the desk is made out of the beams from the old infants school hall? That's what the big pile of wood is in the background, it's to make a seat to go in the atrium.

There are lots of different machines needed to do all the woodwork jobs. This one above is a bandsaw for very careful cutting of small pieces of wood. BRIX BE CAREFUL! Mind your paws!!
This one is a drill for making holes, it also has a vice which holds the wood still while it is drilled.

This funny looking thing is a 'thicknesser/planer' it makes your bits of wood just the right thickness for the job! It can make fat pieces thin but it can't make thin pieces fat.
